My Positions

For:

For reform in state government, especially budgeting, delivery of services, and ethics.

For developing innovative ways to improve all aspects of state government.

For rolling back the recent sales tax increase to where it was, 5%

For putting the income tax where the voters have already said it should be, 5%.

For removing the recently implemented sales tax on alcoholic beverages.

For having state employee benefit comparability with the private sector.

I support the Mass Municipal Associations recommendations on
Health Insurance Reform  Cities and towns need to be able to save money on their employees health insurance.

For directing stimulus effort to those communities that need it most, and where is can benefit the greatest number.

For better oversight of state spending.  The state provides almost all of Lawrence's municipal and school budget, and now they are facing disaster.  Once Republicans are elected to the Governor's office and the Legislature, Lawrence should be put into Receivership

For having education be about students, not about those employed in educational constituencies. Special education funding and special education transportation needs serious reform. End unfunded mandates.

Firearm laws in MA are poorly written and do nothing to deter crime. I support
House Bill 2259 which will protect Second Amendment rights of MA residents and deter gun crimes. I have a 90% GOAL rating.

For putting gambling where it exists already (horse tracks and dog tracks).

Against:

Against increased spending by the state government.

Against increasing state payrolls.

Against higher taxes in all forms. The wrong thing to do in a recession, particularly when MA is so close to states with lower taxes.

Against unfunded mandates for cities, towns and schools.

Against state laws that restrict the privatization of state and municipal services (like the Pacheo Law), and others that require excessive bidding processes and the requirement to pay prevailing (high union rate) wages.

Against spending on benefits for illegal immigrants/undocumented aliens, “illegal” means not legal.

Against voter fraud. The state needs to address this by requiring proof of identity prior to voting.

Against Chap. 40B, the supposed Fair Housing Act, a law that wrecks neighborhoods and enriches developers. We need to Repeal 40B.
